Where is STM?
1 . What is STM?
St. Thomas More College (STM) is a Catholic liberal arts college that
is federated with the University of Saskatchewan. Our students are U of
S Arts & Science students AND STM students at the same time. Our
classes are U of S credit classes.
2 . Where is STM?
We are located on the U of S campus in Saskatoon. Our address is 1437 College Drive. See locations and maps.
3 . How does STM work?
Our unique federation with the U of S can be confusing for prospective
students. Federation basically means that we are academically
integrated with the U of S. We have our own administration and we hire
our own faculty but all the work we do is connected with the larger
university.
4 . How is STM different from the University of Saskatchewan
STM is a Catholic institution. STM has its own administration, faculty,
and staff, but our academic programs are integrated with the U of S.
5 . Who can become an STM student?
A student in any U of S college can register in STM classes and be part
of our community but to officially enrol as an STM student, you must be
a U of S Arts & Science student.
6 . Who can take STM classes?
U of S students in any college can take STM classes.
7 . Are STM classes smaller?
STM classes are usually smaller that regular university sections.
8 . Are STM classes religious?
STM classes have curriculum that is approved by the University of
Saskatchewan. You will find that religious themes are part of the
content of certain courses (I.E. religious studies) but you are not
required to hold any particular religious beliefs. One of our
values as a Catholic college is respect for people's right to choose
their own faith.
9 . Do STM classes count for U of S credit?
Yes.
10 . Why should I take an STM class?
Take STM classes for any or all of these reasons.
-because the subject interests you-because the class size is smaller-because it fits into your schedule-because the professor is a good teacher
11 . How do I choose STM classes?
STM classes are listed on PAWS with all the regular university classes.
You simply look for classes with "M" section numbers and that have "St.
Thomas More College class" in its course attributes description.
12 . How do I become an STM student?
When you register for classes using PAWS (the U of S registration
system), you will see a link "Register through St. Thomas More
College". Click "I want to be registered through St. Thomas More
College." That's all you have to do.
13 . What programs can I choose as an STM student?
Any programs available to Arts & Science students are available to
STM students. This includes pre-professional programs such as pre-law,
pre-medicine etc. For a list of subject majors in Arts and Science
14 . Does it cost anything extra to enrol through STM?
No. You pay regular U of S tution and fees.
15 . Do I have to be Catholic to be an STM student?
No. Students from many different faith traditions enrol though STM and take STM classes.
16 . Do I have to go to church if I am an STM student?
No, but Roman Catholic litugies are celebrated in the chapel and you are welcome to join us.
17 . Why should I become an STM student?
STM students:- are part of a smaller but diverse community within the U of S- are eligible for an additional $145,000.00 in scholarships and bursaries- have access to additional student services and support- get the popular STM student dayplanner- may apply for student employment positions at the college
This all comes at no extra charge. That's a great deal.
18 . Are there disadvantages to enrolling through STM?
No. Really, there aren't any. Go ahead, try to find one.
19 . Why doesn't everybody choose STM?
Some students don't know that STM exists. Many students don't
understand how STM works so they think they cannot be part of our
college.
20 . How do I apply for STM scholarships and bursaries?
The STM awards applications are available on our website in August of
each year. You fill out and submit the application along with any other
required documents. For awards descriptions and application deadlines,
