Entering Student Awards

St. Thomas More College Entering Students are defined as:

  • Students proceeding directly from high school to university
  • Students who have been out of high school for one or more years and have less than 18 credit units transferable to a program of study at the University of Saskatchewan.

In order to be eligible for St. Thomas More College Entering Student Scholarships, Awards & Bursaries the minimum requirements are as follows:

  • A student must be a self-declared St. Thomas More College student
  • A student must be registered for 6 credit units of coursework through St. Thomas More College
  • A student must be registered in at least 18 credit units of coursework in his or her first year (9 credit units per term)

Additional requirements for St. Thomas More College Entering Student Bursaries are as follows:

  • A student must have financial need. 
  • Financial need will be assessed at by filling out the Financial Need Calculator: paws.usask.ca/go/awards

Notes

  1. In any given year, the amount and awarding of each of St. Thomas More College scholarships and awards is contingent upon the availability of funds
  2. A student may receive only one St. Thomas More College scholarship or award unless no other student is eligible for a specific scholarship
  3. A student may receive scholarships from both University of Saskatchewan and St. Thomas More College with the following exception - entering students who have received one of the following U of S renewable scholarships are not eligible for an entering student scholarship from St. Thomas More College, but can apply for the St. Thomas More College Entering Student Book Award:
  • Presidents First and Best Scholarship,
  • Chancellors’ Scholarship, or
  • U of S Entrance Scholarship (this is not one of the guaranteed entrance scholarships)

  2. To receive a scholarship*, award* or bursary** the student must attend the St. Thomas More College Awards Ceremony or Bursary Event

Wolfe Family General Achievement Entrance Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY

Student must:

  • have achieved an admission average of 90% or greater
  • be residents of Saskatchewan
  • have graduated from a Saskatchewan high school
  • provide documentation (the “Documentation”) attesting to:
    • having devoted an average of at least 2 hours weekly over 40 weeks during the prior year to compassionate activity(ies), including but not limited to: assistance to or visiting of isolated aged, weak, infirm or handicapped persons in their homes or community residence; or tutorial assistance to socially disadvantaged or physically handicapped children; or community service, together with two testimonials to this effect
    • having devoted an average of at least 2 hours weekly over 40 weeks during the prior year to participation in individual or team sports and/or athletics, together with two testimonials to this effect

SELECTION CRITERIA Selection will be made on the basis of academic achievement and submitted Documentation in a weighting of 70% academics, 15% compassionate activity and 15% sports or athletic activity, as determined by the Scholarships and Awards Committee.

As a condition of accepting this award, recipients will be required to authorize the Scholarships and Awards Committee to release such information as is allowed by current University policies and existing privacy legislation.

NOTE Renewable up to 3 years

Renewal Criteria:

As determined by the Scholarships and Awards Committee, students receiving an award will be eligible to have their award renewed annually up to three times, provided they:

  1. achieve an academic average of at least 80%;
  2. provide a personal statement of less than 250 words outlining their academic progress, University experience and career objectives;
  3. are full-time students; and
  4. continue to be involved in both compassionate and sports or physical activities, as demonstrated by the submission of the requisite Documentation confirming same as set out above.
