SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS | BURSARIES

Criteria

St. Thomas More College Entering Students are defined as:

  • Students proceeding directly from high school to university
  • Students who have been out of high school for one or more years and have less than 18 credit units transferable to a program of study at the University of Saskatchewan

To be eligible for St. Thomas More College Entering Student Scholarships & Awards the minimum requirements are as follows:

  • A student must be a self declared St. Thomas More College student
  • A student must be registered for 6 credit units of coursework through St. Thomas More College
  • A student must be registered in at least 18 credit units of coursework in his or her first year (9 credit units per term)

Additional requirements for St. Thomas More College Entering Student Bursaries are as follows:

  • A student must have financial need
  • Financial need will be assessed at by filling out the 2016-2017 STM Financial Need Calculator for Entering Students: paws.usask.ca/go/awards

Notes

  • In any given year, the amount and awarding of each St. Thomas More College scholarship, award, and bursary is contingent upon the availability of fund

  • A student may receive only one St. Thomas More College scholarship or award unless no other student is eligible for a specific scholarship
  • A student may receive scholarships from both University of Saskatchewan and St. Thomas More College with the following exception - entering students who have received one of the following U of S Best & Brightest scholarships, are not eligible for an entering student scholarship from St. Thomas More College. They can apply for the St. Thomas More College Entering Student Book Award.
    • Presidents First and Best Scholarship,
    • Chancellors’ Scholarship, or
    • U of S Entrance Scholarship (this is not one of the guaranteed entrance scholarships)
  • Only scholarship, award, and bursary recipients will be notified via their official U of S Email

St. Thomas More College Aboriginal Entering Student Scholarship

Student must:

  • be of Aboriginal ancestry*
  • provide proof of Aboriginal ancestry

*Aboriginal Ancestry: It is determined by reference to the Constitution Act of 1982 and includes Indian (non-status/status), Métis and Inuit persons of Canada as well as persons who are accepted by one of the Aboriginal peoples of Saskatchewan as a member of their community.

Wolfe Family General Achievement Entrance Scholarship

VALUE $6500

ELIGIBILITY

Student must:

  • have achieved an admission average of 90% or greater
  • be residents of Saskatchewan
  • have graduated from a Saskatchewan high school
  • provide documentation (the “Documentation”) attesting to:
    • having devoted an average of at least 2 hours weekly over 40 weeks during the prior year to compassionate activity(ies), including but not limited to: assistance to or visiting of isolated aged, weak, infirm or handicapped persons in their homes or community residence; or tutorial assistance to socially disadvantaged or physically handicapped children; or community service, together with two testimonials to this effect
    • having devoted an average of at least 2 hours weekly over 40 weeks during the prior year to participation in individual or team sports and/or athletics, together with two testimonials to this effect

SELECTION CRITERIA

Selection will be made on the basis of academic achievement and submitted Documentation in a weighting of 70% academics, 15% compassionate activity and 15% sports or athletic activity, as determined by the Scholarships and Awards Committee.

As a condition of accepting this award, recipients will be required to authorize the Scholarships and Awards Committee to release such information as is allowed by current University policies and existing privacy legislation.

NOTE

Renewable up to 3 years

Renewal Criteria:

As determined by the Scholarships and Awards Committee, students receiving an award will be eligible to have their award renewed annually up to three times, provided they:

i. achieve an academic average of at least 80%;

ii. provide a personal statement of less than 250 words outlining their academic progress, University experience and career objectives;

iii. are full-time students; and

iv. continue to be involved in both compassionate and sports or physical activities, as demonstrated by the submission of the requisite Documentation confirming same as set out above.

  • have a minimum school average of 80% or be maintaining an honours grade point average

  • submit a letter outlining their plans for the future, their leadership and community activities, and their special skills

  • be a St. Thomas More College Entering or Continuing Student
  • pursuing an undergraduate program in preparation for the Catholic priesthood
  • provide a letter describing their intent and commitment to pursuing studies for the Catholic priesthood
  • submit a letter from a seminary or vocation director in support of their applications
  • submit a letter of reference from a high school teacher or university professor
