Conveying the Message of Change

Reception: Friday November 13, 7-9pm

AN ART POSTER COLLECTION
Nelson Mandela has said, “posters can be a very beautiful form of propaganda. They are a very powerful way of conveying information, provided they are simple and to the point”.
We are presenting here a collection of Art Posters from over the last 4 decades – all conveying strong messages of peace, respect, justice, solidarity, environmental rights, liberation, resistance, good development and democracy.
These posters speak for themselves and range from the struggle against the Apartheid Regime in South Africa; the impact on Front Line States such as Mozambique and Zimbabwe emerging from colonialism and confronting the Apartheid state; the struggle for human rights and democracy in Central America; the importance of literacy to build civil society; the fight to preserve the environment in the Pacific.
They merge with the posters of solidarity from Canada – as Canadians have realized the true value of solidarity at home. The Taking of Sides in pressuring the Canadian government to challenge the Apartheid State of South Africa, the support of First Nations and Metis Nation Rights, the fight against the “free trade” agreements such as the World Trade Organization and North America Free Trade Agreement that have led to corporate global control; the challenge to stop violence against women and join the World March of Women for justice and equity. We will also present T Shirts that people have worn over the years to convey messages for change.
We dedicate this exhibit to the inspiration for hope and change given us by Nelson Mandela.
