The author feels that human connection is a funny little riddle, especially in the context of the impersonal ebbs and flows of the natural processes that surround us. He hopes you feel as confused as he does when you read this poem.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:35px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:35px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong>Reflection on Bittersweet Memories from the Banks of the Saskatchewan River<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>to lay with a lover,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>languishing as the morning sun creeps into the sky<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Skin brushing skin<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>sweet nothings floating in the air, over our heads<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>like lazy sparrows warming themselves<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>only to fly away through the open door<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The moments we carved out have no measure,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>in the same way that a river does not care to remember how long it has run through its banks<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clay and stone are rendered as it cuts its course towards the sea<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sorrow is not misplaced at its passing, perhaps<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the birdsong is not bitter because it is short<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and it will happen over and over and over again\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and everytime it will feel like the springtime\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0a gentle touch soothes and the old course is forgotten\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0in the same way that the mycelium bodies\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0fruit from the empty forest floor; their roots often forgotten<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>to lay with a lover,\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>languishing as the morning sun creeps into the sky<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:35px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color:#a3a3a3\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><em>This piece is part of the <\/em>in medias res<em> March 2021 \u201cLove\u201d Issue.
