A year-end celebration included lots of balloons, games and fun as well as awards to deserving honourees

Members of St. Thomas More College’s student clubs marked the end of anther academic year with a celebration on Saturday, April 6.

The Black and White Mock Casino Night offered participants the chance to playfully dress in two tones, while socializing and enjoying games of chance.

There was horse racing, blackjack and Twister roulette games, at which winners received tickets. Later in the evening there was a chance to use the ‘funny money’ to bid on silent and live auction items.

STM staff and faculty members Tammy Marche, Michael MacLean, Richard Medernach, Dean Schmidt, Cooper Muirhead and Gertrude Rompre served as hosts at the bar and casino tables.

“The idea was for them to have some fun at the end of the year, and I think that was accomplished,” said MacLean.

The various student clubs also used the evening as a chance to give updates on their activities over the past year and handed out some annual awards.

The Spirit of STM Award went to Allyssa McCullough, the Heart of STM Award went to Betina Gewers, and the STM Campus Ministry Award went to Ana Meckelborg.

“She’s been such a strong leader in Just Youth for four years,” said MacLean of the graduating Meckelborg’s honour. “We’ll miss her. All the award recipients are so deserving because they give so much to STM.”
