Physical Health and Wellness

Taking care of your body is one of the pillars of wellness. Three key components for your physical health are: nutrition, exercise and sleep. USask Healthy Body Resources

Healthy Eating

You may be on a tight budget and you may be living on your own for the first time, but you can still make healthy food choices most of the time.

One important thing to watch out for is how your emotions affect your eating. Try not to eat your feelings!

Try to keep active, even during the cold dark winter months when you just want to hibernate. Exercise improves your mood and cognitive capacity. Develop a plan and work daily exercise into your schedule.

Try these quick, and beginner friendly, at home workouts Pent Up Workouts as a start. Some exercise is better than none!

Spiritual Health and Wellness

In 2020, Pope Francis said, “We should take good care of our bodies, but also our souls,” preaching about the Gospel of Mark’s account of Jesus healing the paralytic. “Jesus teaches us to go to what is essential,” the pope said. “What is essential is health, complete, body and soul.” Spiritual wellness is a part of over all wellness, and we need to tend to it daily.

STM Campus Ministry

St. Thomas More College Campus Ministry can help you in your quest to be spiritually healthy. Your journey to spiritual wellness may involve a number of aspects and activities.

Please connect to Campus Ministry if you’d like to:

  • Practice meditation and silence in your daily or weekly life. Campus Ministry invites you to Centering Prayer, once a week, for twenty minutes of silence in the presence of God.
  • Pray. You can take time to pray on your own, or connect to on-line opportunities like the Rosary, and Campus Ministry’s weekly Gospel Reflection.
  • Connect to community. Campus Ministry works with the Weekday and Sunday mass communities at the STM Chapel as well as the Catholic student groups like Newman Centre and the Just Youth group. Reach out and we can help you get connected!

You may also commit to some of the following practices on your own:

  • Watching Religious Services on-line (Our diocesan services can be accessed easily at saskatoonmass.com).
  • Spending quiet time alone in reflection.
  • Building awareness through journaling.
  • Serving the needs of others, spending time in nature, appreciating music and the arts. This includes comedy – remember, a laugh is good for the soul!
