Poetry has always been a way for Jeana to romanticize the life she’s living. This poem is no exception. The inspiration for “Amber in the Sun” came while she was driving home one evening and saw how the sunset made the yellows of the Agriculture fields at the university glow.
She came to picture a woman lying in the glowing yellow field, drenched in sunlight and sweet as honey. The woman was pleased to be in the sun, playing with the rays, but she felt trapped and out of place, and longed to return to her past. Jeana tried to capture this scene in words.
Amber in the Sun
Silk beams of cowardice
create for her a labyrinth.
Between each thumb, ring finger,
a lemon drop does linger.
Hiccups of honey glue
dress her wrists with satin dew.
Mirages of modest memories
………….gush Amber on the field.
