Gift of music shared at Advent Musical Evening

The Office of the Dean hosted an evening of music and Advent reflection

By Paul Sinkewicz

Dr. Arul Kumaran, Dean of St. Thomas More College, hosted An Advent Musical Evening in the STM Chapel on Dec. 11, with talented performers from the STM community stepping into the spotlight to share their musical gifts.
Starting off the evening was the STM Coffeehouse Band singing O Come, O Come Emanuel, O Come All Ye Faithful and The First Noel.
Those holiday classics set the tone for an evening of beautiful music.
Notable performances on the piano included Dr. Daniel Regnier's composition Solea, Jake Klassen's I Saw Three Ships and Alice Li's mastery of Mozart's Sonata in A Major, 1st Movement.
Li also accompanied Ben Black on the oboe for his haunting performance of Gabriel's Oboe.
A real highlight of the evening was the vocal talents of the Filipino Students' Association, with renditions of Silent Night and the Filipino Christmas song Sana Ngayong Pasko.
The Newman Sounds Glee Club and the Alum-notes - a group of STM alumni and members of the worshipping community - performed more classic Christmas carols.
Special thanks go out to Zach Yuzwa and Kari Sinkewicz for their readings from the bible, and to Rev. Dr. Bill Harrison, of the Lutheran Theological Seminary, for his thoughtful Christmas Message.
A reception afterward in the Chelsea Commons included refreshments and a group sing-a-long to close out the evening.
If you missed this magical evening, make plans to share the music with us next year!
