STM Celebrates Presidential Installation

Sunday, September 29, marked the annual Academic Mass as well as the Installation of STM's 12th President, Dr. Carl N. Still, PhD.

Fr. Ron Griffin and Fr. Andre Lalach concelebrated the Academic mass and Installation with Bishop Mark Hagemoen, with members of STM staff serving as ministers of hospitality and gift bearers. Dean Arul Kumaran shared the first reading; former Board Chair Ashley Smith, the second reading and Dr. Sharon Wright led the prayers of the faithful. For the first time a smudging ceremony was included as part of the presidential installation - by Elders A. J. and Patricia Felix.

Following the official Installation ceremony and mass, there was a luncheon and program in the College cafeteria. Greetings were received from several special guests in attendance including MLA Olauson, Mayor Charlie Clark, University president Peter Stoicheff, Bishop Mark Hagamoen, Rev. Andre Lalach and Dr. Meehan of the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities of Canada. Dr. Gertrude Rompre emceed the ceremony, which also included greetings from colleagues - faculty and staff.

The Board of Governors for St. Thomas More College (STM) appointed Dr. Carl N. Still (PhD) to serve as the 12th President of STM for a five-year term, effective May 1, 2019. Well-known and respected at STM and at the University of Saskatchewan, Still joined the philosophy department at STM in 1995 and later served as department head, followed by the role of dean of STM from 2006-2016. Still received his bachelors (honours) from the University of South Carolina, his licentiate from the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies (Toronto), and his master’s and PhD from the University of Toronto. He teaches and researches in the history of western philosophy, with a focus on the Catholic Intellectual tradition. Dr. Still has published four books, as well as numerous scholarly articles and book chapters.
