Newman Players return to the boards in Tell-Tale Farce

First drama production at STM College since pandemic interruption

By Paul Sinkewicz

The lights finally came back up on a Newman Players production on Thursday.

The stage had been dark since the final performance of And Then There Were None on Feb. 1, 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic forced many beloved STM traditions into the wings, leaving the College community's drama lovers bereft.

But after months of hard work rehearsing, building sets and sewing costumes, the show once again went on with a talented cast of newcomers and a few old hands putting on the Tell-Tale Farce, by Don Zolidis under the direction of Richard Medernach.

The play is described as a hilarious romp set in 1848 as Edgar Allan Poe is just coming off the spectacular success of “The Raven.” A chance at wealth, a lovelorn imposter, and an enemy bent on revenge all add up to a freewheeling, door-slamming farce with a touch of the macabre.

The play runs Nov. 16-18, 2023 in the Fr. O'Donnell Auditorium.

The cast is made up of Oliver Cossette, Josh Goring, Erik Robertson, Nick Evans, Max Herman, Stephanie Bachman (a STM alumna), Laura Mitchell (a STM staff member), Riel Fidler (the only Newman Players veteran in the cast) and Bernalda St. Pierre.

Amanda Gieni returned to Newman Players to serve as Stage Manager, with Katrina Lemcke as Assistant Stage Manager. Johanna Epp was in charge of Props and Stage Crew, Chelsey Elimanco handled Sound and Emily Roberts oversaw Costumes.

Newman Players is the theatre group at St. Thomas More College. The troupe offers students, faculty, staff and alumni opportunities to be part of its drama productions.
