STM Gallery comes to life with creativity and inspiration in new exhibit

STM College appoints Ann Brooymans-Donald to post of STM Gallery curator; opening reception Sunday, Jan. 21

By Paul Sinkewicz

The hallway outside the Shannon Library has come alive with evocative and vibrant art once again since the appointment of a new curator for the STM Gallery.

Ann Brooymans-Donald is a Saskatoon artist who has been in numerous group and solo exhibitions in many cities throughout Canada and Holland.

She has lived and taught art in Saskatoon for more than 20 years, and was formerly the liaison between STM College and the Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools art programs for the annual GSCS Student Art Exhibition at the College.

Ann began her new position at the College on Dec. 1, taking over from Linda Stark, who dedicated many years to the STM Gallery and overseeing the collection of the College.

Ann didn’t waste any time getting to work, preparing a new exhibit featuring a Selection of Artists from the Studio on 20th Street. It runs January to March, with an opening reception on Sunday, Jan. 21 from 1-4 pm. All are welcome to attend.

Ann holds degrees related to creating art and teaching art from Mount Alison, Concordia University, University of Western, York University and a Kunst Academy in Enschede, Holland.

In the fall, Ann graciously curated an exhibit at the STM Gallery held in conjunction with the Annual Fall Gathering of Alumni and Friends.

Her works are an expression of light, colour and form in landscapes, portraits, figures and still life in a variety of media: painting, drawing, collage, and pottery. Her connection to nature is often the inspiration for her use of the elements and principles of design. Her work celebrates the prairies and the people of the prairies.

The current STM Gallery exhibit is entitled A Selection of Artists from Studio on 20th Street.

The Studio on 20th artist collective consists of eleven artists who share a working studio space in the Riversdale area of Saskatoon. There are 8 of the eleven artists showing here in this exhibition. These artists have had years of experience creating art and exhibiting in both solo and group shows.
The exhibit features works from Ann Donald, Brenda Kennedy, Carol Wylie, Cindy Hergott-Pellerin, Jan Corcoran, Karen Maguire, Karen Pask-Thompson and Miranda Jones.
