Les Filles de la Providence (FDLP) recognized at St. Thomas More College celebration fall 2026

The St. Thomas More College (STM) community extends condolences to Les Filles de la Providence (FDLP) and family on the passing of Sr. Dolorès Bussière on July 21, 2026.

Sr. Dolorès, the youngest daughter of Leon and Marie-Ange Bussière, followed her older sister Evèline into the religious congregation FDLP, entering the novitiate in 1959. Dolorès taught primary school for over 30 years in Saskatchewan and Labrador and spent seven years as a missionary in the Ivory Coast.  She also served on the General Council for the FDLP.

Sr. Dolorès trusted in God’s providence, with joyful gratitude and a focus on others. She lived the FDLP charism to “Make Jesus Christ Known and Loved,” firmly rooted in God’s providence, in her teaching and missionary work.

In 2025, the members of the FDLP in Saskatchewan gifted $5 million as their lasting “work of solidarity” (oeuvre de solidarité) to support STM’s Providence kanaweyihtâkosowin Chair in Indigenous Spirituality and Reconciliation and STM’s Engaged and Experiential Learning programs.  Sr. Dolores was present at STM this past fall to celebrate this remarkable gift and lived to see the College name the first Chair, Deacon Harry Lafond.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Sts-Martyrs-Canadiens Roman Catholic Parish.

“Providence always so good, so wise,

So full of mercy and of love

For your poor creatures,

We adore you; we bless you,

And we abandon ourselves unreservedly to you.

Make of us what you please.”
