Class of 2022 celebrated at Fall Convocation dinner
Alumni ranks grow by 34 as latest graduates take well-deserved bow
By Paul SinkewiczYears of study and hard work were rewarded for 34 STM students Wednesday, Nov. 9 as they took part in the 2022 USask Fall Convocation ceremony.
At a celebration dinner held in their honour afterward, Dr. Carl Still, President of the College, invited the newest class of graduates to go out into the world and create “the future we want.”
“Today is a celebration, but also a transition,” Still said. “Never forget that the ultimate measure of our College is our graduates and what they do with their education.”
The evening also included the presentation of the Fr. Henry Carr Award, given to a student who has notably enriched the life of the College – somebody who has given of themselves to make STM College better for their peers.
Emily Roberts is the 2022 recipient of the award.
Richard Medernach, Manager of Student Experience and Enrolment, lauded Emily for her work with the student journal in medias res, the St. Thomas More Students Union and the Newman Sounds Glee Club, and for her excellence and dedication, as well as her mentorship of the next generation of student leaders.
Rae Ann Dyck, STM alumna from the Class of 2013, gave the closing remarks at the dinner. Now a volunteer with the St. Thomas More Newman Alumni Association (STMNAA), Dyck welcomed the newest cadre of graduates to the ranks of the alumni, overcoming unique challenges along the way.
“You have broadened your sense of identity, as well as your sense of responsibility to each other and society while obtaining your liberal arts degrees,” she said. “You have developed the four C’s: Critical thinking, Collaboration, Communication and Creativity. Skills that will transfer to any career you choose to pursue.”
Dyck said the College and the STMNAA would always be there to support and celebrate its cherished alumni, and invited the graduates to stay in touch and return often.
